Busy

Things here in Richmond, VA have been very busy lately. With the start of a new semester and all of the stress of work, I have not been inspired to write on my new blog lately. I have also picked up more hours at work, anticipating the eminent loss of income that accompanies the fact that I will not be working full-time starting in May. This is rather worrisome, but Char continues to remind me that it will payoff in the long run. On a related note, I have decided that I will be applying to PhD programs in the fall. This is not to say that I will be accepted to any programs, so please do not get too anxious for me, as I am sure to be anxious enough as it is. I love the college environment and am hopeful that I can continue to succeed academically in my current Masters Program, perform well on the GRE, and be accepted to a PhD program somewhere. Resulting in a career change to college professor. I hope to continue working with children, and will most likely focus on School Social Work or a related field if I get accepted. So do whatever it is that you choose to do to help send me positive vibes, which will hopefully manifest themselves by consequently increasing the probability that I will be a more attractive candidate to prospective PhD programs (i.e. please keep me in your thoughts and prayers). Sorry about the absence of interesting photos on this post, but we haven't done anything photo worthy lately. By the way, I am pretty active on facebook, so that is a better way to catch up with me. I find it is less time consuming than blogging. Most importantly, keep in mind that Char is graduating from Duke in May. We would love it if anyone could join us in celebrating her earning her MBA!! From a hopeful future Social Work PhD candidate, Peace out bitches!!

We could not be happier for you! And we could not be more proud of both of you. You deserve all success and for all your dreams to come true.

Of course we will pray for you, but I am sure you will do well. You have so much on the ball, such a keen intellect, such a beautiful heart, so many gifts and talents... you do not realize how perfectly this plan fits you.

And you are so lucky to have such a beautiful wife who believes in you and supports you in this. The two or you will accomplish this together.

We are here for you. We will do whatever we can to support you. Our love and prayers are, and always have been, with you and Char.

This is AWESOME news!!

James! I'm psyched. I'm so glad that you'll be going into the Ph.D. thing, I think it's a great move. As for schools, I'm thinking there's a decent one here in Chicago... somewhere... maybe on the South Side? Near 60th and University? Or something?

I understand the worries involved with petitioning for the programs, I'm very nervous about that process beginning for me next year. I imagine it must be as daunting for you as it is for me. Or maybe a little more so, since you are on the cusp of it and I still have another year.

Anyway, I'm tossing out some positive vibes hoping that they will manifest themselves by consequently increasing the probability that you will be a more attractive candidate to prospective Ph.D. programs. (How does a Ph.D. candidate say "Pray for me?")

Oh, and keep in mind, I'm sure you've heard this already, but keep in mind that life experience is often really important in these things, and your life experience already makes you a better candidate than those people who have been in school their whole lives. (At least, that's what I think.)

Congrats Char! We want to get out there if we can... it's hard to miss something like that, and we don't want to if it's at all possible for us to make it out there, we will.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. I just hope that I can get accepted to a program now.
